90's fashion regurgitation showing now at Forever 21.

I am by no means a minimalist. I go for Baroque.

I like Forever 21. So shoot me. I follow high fashion. I drool over McQueen, Westwood, Dior…you name it. I also love trendy disposable items that I won’t be heartbroken over if a stitch falls out or a strap breaks. My work clothes (black…ack…) have been looking a little haggard, so I decided a quick revamp of some basics would spruce things up a bit. Here’s what I was perusing for…

-Black full skirt. Mid-Thigh. Pockets a plus.

-Black “dressy” shorts. Mid-Thigh..kinda loose.

-Fun fishnet ankle socks to wear with heels.

Instead I was visually assaulted by racks and racks of garish “90’s” tribal prints, horrifying florals and more up-your-butt rompers than should ever be made. To top it off…Hammer pants, which they are trying to reinvent as Harem pants. 3 floors of this bullshit. Unflattering, cheap looking and really really short.

I had a hell of a time finding anything 1. Black 2. Solid 3. long enough that I don’t need a brazilian wax to wear it. Yet the store was filled and there were women milling about with arm loads of clothes.

I was left remembering the clothes the first time around. The first wave being the hippie movement with real crochet, leather details and Stevie Nicks florals. A real bohemian vibe that seemed earthy and more sincere. Then the 90’s revisit happened. The opulent fabrics were stripped down to cheeseball polyester made for mass production. The tribal prints got neon-ified and spandexy. Ugly and unflattering. Period. Now I see those same clothes being repackaged for the young’uns and they think its new and so fresh. Sigh….I got fashion raped today. My style gland hurts.

There is a lot of stupid annoying garbage on Model Mayhem. Sometimes you dig through the garbage and find treasure, like Kaos Beauty Klinik.

I have worked with Richard Kadrey many times and have always come out of the shoot with amazing photos, a sore tummy from laughing and the desire to want to shoot more…with him.

These photos were taken at the Metro Hotel in SF. They are instant film.
